Past Simple
        Χρησιμοποιούμε τον Past Simple για να μιλήσουμε για:
- κάτι που έγινε σε μια συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή στο παρελθόν.
   Francesca went to the cinema yesterday.
- καταστάσεις που ίσχυαν στο παρελθόν.
   “I was a good student when I was your age”, said mum.
- συνήθειες που είχαμε ή πράγματα που κάναμε συχνά στο παρελθόν.
   The children often visited their parents.
- πράξεις που έγιναν η μία μετά την άλλη στο παρελθόν.
   Theo said goodbye and left.
        Με τον Past Simple χρησιμοποιούμε συχνά χρονικές εκφράσεις όπως yesterday, yesterday afternoon, last night, a year ago κλπ.
   We saw Emma and Pete yesterday.

Past Continuous
        Χρησιμοποιούμε τον Past Continuous για να μιλήσουμε για:
- μια πράξη που βρισκόταν σε εξέλιξη σε μια συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή στο παρελθόν.
   At six o’clock this morning I was sleeping.
- δύο ή περισσότερες πράξεις που συνέβαιναν ταυτόχρονα στο παρελθόν, συχνά με τη λέξη while.
   While he was washing the dishes, she was tidying the dining room.
- μια πράξη που διακόπηκε από μια άλλη στο παρελθόν, συχνά με τις λέξεις when και while. Χρησιμοποιούμε Past Continuous για την πράξη που είχε τη μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια και Past Simple για εκείνη που διέκοψε την πρώτη.
   Martina was washing her hair when the lights went out.

Present Perfect
        Χρησιμοποιούμε τον Present Perfect:
- για να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που συνέβη στο παρελθόν. Δεν αναφέρουμε πότε συνέβη είτε γιατί δεν το γνωρίζουμε είτε γιατί δεν είναι σημαντικό.
   I’ve passed all my exams!
- για να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που έγινε στο παρελθόν και επηρεάζει το παρόν.
   She’s had something to eat. She isn’t hungry.
- για να μιλήσουμε για εμπειρίες που είχαμε ή δεν είχαμε στη ζωή μας, συχνά με τις λέξεις ever και never.
   Have you ever slept in a tent?
   They’ve never been to the USA.
- με τη λέξη just για να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που μόλις τελείωσε.
   He‘s just left.
- με τη λέξη already για να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που έχει ήδη ολοκληρωθεί.
   They work very fast and they‘ve already completed the project.
- με τη λέξη yet για να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που δεν έχει ολοκληρωθεί ακόμη ή για να ρωτήσουμε αν μια πράξη έχει ολοκληρωθεί.
   I haven’t spoken to them yet.
   Have you finished your homework yet?
- με τις λέξεις for και since για να μιλήσουμε για πράξεις ή καταστάσεις που ξεκίνησαν στο παρελθόν και συνεχίζονται στο παρόν.
   They‘ve been friends for five years.
   We‘ve lived in London since 1998.

Past Perfect
        Χρησιμοποιούμε τον Past Perfect για να μιλήσουμε για:
- μια πράξη που είχε ήδη συμβεί πριν από μια συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή στο παρελθόν.
   I had read all my e-mails by seven o’clock.
- μια πράξη που είχε ήδη συμβεί πριν από μια άλλη πράξη στο παρελθόν. Χρησιμοποιούμε Past Perfect για την πράξη που συνέβη πρώτη και Past Simple για την πράξη που συνέβη δεύτερη.
   By the time they arrived at the cinema, the film had started.
         Με τον Past Perfect χρησιμοποιούμε συχνά χρονικές εκφράσεις όπως before, after, already, when, by, by the time.
   By the time we got to the station, the train had left.
